Wrestling

Wrestling is the act of physical interaction using strength between two people. Each person attempts to gain an advantage over, or control of, the other. Physical techniques used in wrestling are clinching, holding and locking. Wrestlers try to avoid techniques likely to cause injury. Many styles of wrestling are known all over the world and have long histories.  Wrestling has been made into various forms used for both sport and entertainment purposes.

Wrestling at the World Combat Games 2010

Weight categories:
Olympic Wrestling Women: 48kg, 55kg, 63kg, 72kg
Belt Wrestling Me: 96kg
Grappling Men: 70kg, 80kg, 90kg
Grappling Women: 60kg
Pankration Athlima Men: 70kg, 80kg, +90kg

The eight wrestlers of each category are divided into two groups of four. The four wrestlers in each group fight against each other and complete three rounds of two matches. The fourth wrestlers in each group fight against each other to determine the 7th and 8th places. The third wrestlers in each group will fight against each other to determine the 5th and 6th places. The second wrestlers in each group fight against each other to determine the bronze medallist and fourth place. The first wrestler in each group fight against each other to determine the gold and silver medallists.

Olympic Wrestling matches last 6 minutes (3 periods of 2 minutes and 2 breaks of 30 seconds) Belt Wrestling matches last 6 minutes (3 periods of 2 minutes and 2 breaks of 30 seconds) Grappling matches last 5 minutes (1 period of 5 minutes and 1 minute overtime)Pankration matches last 4 minutes (1 period of 4 minutes and 1 minute overtime)
